I personally don't have any interest in Ballards and I have never owned one. But that does not mean I have not shot several over the past 23 years of competitive shooting. So why is it that you are now questioning my own personal experiences that you have absolutely no knowledge about?

Because you have none on the subject.
I've shot competitively with the cast bullets  for 30 years but I would not input on the subject because I have no experience.
You what they say about opinions...

All of the top Rimfire Benchrest Shooters that I have had the pleasure to compete with. All shot Miller Rifles but they also do not have an exposed Hammer and that is not what the OP is asking about.

I had a CPA 441/2 with a Full #4 Octagon Shilen Barrel and Match Chamber that could compete with the rest in a Benchrest Match. More than good enough to get me into the top 3 when I did my own part. Unfortunately it has now become more about the non-affordable ammunition to most like myself. And no longer just about one's own personal Shooting abilities and it does actually make that much difference for one to be able to be competitive.

I enjoy the stunning accuracy of both My 417 Walnut Hill and Ballard/Stevens. Can't say which is better. But neither quite matches the accuracy of my BSA International MkI which gets the nod when there's serious contention at 100 yards. A CPA would be nice, but I think I'll concentrate on a Ballard build in the works for next year's competitions - hoping it matches the BSA's accuracy.

Cbashooter my comments were only in regards to Rimfire Benchrest competition!
Cast bullet shooting had nothing at all to do with it. And I don't share personal opinions when it comes to competitive shooting but only long term personal experiences.

Someone mentioned a 9 o clock firing pin for the 85,  Why not make a 9 o clock pin as an easier way to cure the problem of hammering the extractor?

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Maybe because you mentioned Grand Slam wanted answers, and indicated they should be from "experience", as if I don't have any? And as you say, you have no knowledge of my shooting either.
So I think I have an equal right to respond to him as you. Did you think I didn't catch that jab you took at my reply?
I think owning and shooting an number of Ballard rifles might give me some ability to respond intelligently about their merit.

I wasn't taking a Jab at you and I am not sure how you came up with that conclusion again. I consider you to be a real good friend but apparently you no longer feel same. This miss-undertanding between us needs to be resolved.

The Board Index needs a new Section for "Shin Kicking".

This reply isn't to you John, it's to the OP, so ignore anything I post.

My Cody Ballard in .22LR with a Badger match barrel, and match chamber will shoot better than my Winchester 52 or my old Stevens 44 benchrest rifles. Both of the latter were the best .22 smallbores I shot in adult smallbore. But once I got this Cody Ballard combo, I soon sold both the Win. 52, and the Stevens 44, as it outshot both, regardless of the ammo I tried in all three guns.
The only drawback to my Cody Ballard is it uses a CF style extractor, which doesn't extract the cases as well as the sliding extractor. So I made a tool to hook the rims and easily pull the spent cases out after each shot.
But the extractor is at 9 o'clock, and the firing pin strikes at 12 o'clock, which both add to it's accuracy. The barrel is a full round 1.25" diameter, and I use MVA Soule tang sight with their Hadley disc, and a Baldwin globe front with spirit level.

Thanks for Denying my request and now we both now know where you stand.
It was I who highly recommend the use of a Ballard rifle.
It has been you who have said more than once I have no interest in competitive Benchrest.
But now you are the one who is an expert in the conversation?
I have been shooting competitive Benchrest for 23+ years now and yet it was you who took a Jab at Me.
