You know, Joe, Native American was my first thought when I saw those brass tacks. OK, trivia time, who is our most record holding Native American?

Jim Thorpe?

He was a target shooter? I just updated the question to specify target shooting.

The first book I read cover to cover was a Jim Thorpe biography. But the letter on the stock is E so it must be for Chief Eagle something er nother.

Cost of having the parts cast to replicate the palm rest was way high when I finally found a foundry willing to do it. I'm still looking and just got off the phone with another.

Not yet. Had considered it.  Easy enough to have a dozen or so sand cast.
Did talk to a foundry in Warshington today.

Conversation was positive and the rep said they had done castings for a gunsmith in their area before. Sent pictures and weights to them today. Hope they can do them for a reasonable fee. If they can I have some buttplates I'd like done also. Plates you cannot get otherwise. Rep also said they can make patterns so that shinkage will not be an issue, also said they have an alloy that can be polished to look like nickel.

The clamp on rest is very handy when shooting antiques that we don't want
altered.

Shipping makes me very nervous. To have a rare original part lost in the mail is a nightmare I'm not willing to risk. I'll drive the parts over if things go well. I have property to maintain thirty miles from the foundry so that makes it convenient.

Joe,

I would like to buy one of the palm rests if you find someone to cast them.

Talked with the foundry and as suspected they're running short handed. Said they will get back to me.

I've still got the burn scars on my feet from my early 20's working the pouring floor at the local foundry!
