	I have a modest collection of clear glass steins. This is my first with anything related to shooting.

	Amazing enough that the anniversary was celebrated smack in the middle of WWI, but that money and craftsmen to create the souvenir steins could be found was surely more so. Great find! Bill Lawrence

	Joe - nice find. I'll bet it's a valued addition to your collection. I noticed the 1846-1916 dates. If my memory serves me, 1846 was when shooting vereins were started in the New Braunfels area of Texas. P.S.V. could have perhaps been a group that was active in that area? Just throwing out that question . . .

	Philadelphia schuetzen Verein. Yes a nice addition. I had been looking for something Schuetzen related. Not easy to find. A very high quality stein.

	In my collecting experience, American-made glass steins with custom porcelain-insert lids are very uncommon. If you think yours, Joe, came from here rather than "over there", I'd say you found a real treasure. And, by the way, the Philadelphia Schützen-Verein (later Americanized to the Philadelphia Rifle Club) was founded in November, 1846, though the exact date is in dispute. Bill Lawrence

	Not sure where it was made. We did make excellent German steins in this country for sure. No marks to indicate a maker on the stein. Until you mentioned it I had assumed it was made here in the US.

	The crossed US flags might be a giveaway... along with the format of the date. Doubt if there was much importing going on from Germany in 1916. At that date anything made in Germany for export had to be marked "Germany", of course with a clear glass stein it would have to be on the lid. Clear glass ones may not be that common from Germany back then.

	The flags are part of the Philadelphia Rifle Clubs logo. Here is a plate made by the Syracuse China Co. The US exported German glass steins to Germany back then. I think my stein was made here.

	Given the date, Joe, I'd certainly assume that your stein was made here. My only point was that in my stein-collecting experience, American example with custom-decorated porcelain lid inserts are not common. Also, your sample plate uses the Philadelphia Rifle Club name. Makes me suspect (if not strongly assume) that the club's name changed during WWI, probably after we entered the war in April, 1917. Bill Lawrence

	Very neat! I have a number of steins/krugs but none relating to shooting (hunting, yes... shooting, no). I really like them (and what goes in them ) IW

	Hunting types are interesting too. Myself I like glass steins. About a week after picking that stein up another one popped up. Yes, beer is proof God loves us! And beer is good for you!

	Got off the juice six years ago but I do partake a near beer occasionally. Wished they made a dunkel version. An affordable one anyway. Sheaf Stout was one of my favorites.
