By chance I recently had a similar situation at my current gun club also Jack. I had tried to sign up for "long range orientation" which is basically orienting members how to conduct themselves when shooting the 1,000 yd. range, as it shuts down all the other ranges between the firing line and impact area. But I was told, "You don't need to sign up, just show up at the time it's scheduled for." So I drive the 16 miles to the club, only to be told when I got there that the range is closed for road work! I told them I'd checked the online calendar a few days ago, and was told I need to check the day I'm heading out, in case the schedule got changed. So two weeks later I return again to the club, after checking that morning, and there's 3 or 4 guys waiting for orientation. The person conducting the training tells us if he doesn't get 10 guys, he's leaving, "as it's just not worth my time to do it." Now I'm even more irritated, and I went up and quietly told him I didn't appreciate making numerous trips out here, and just whose time is more important? His or mine? And if the number is so important, then why not have a sign up list so they not only know how many will be there, but they can send an email telling us if it's on or off! So they ended up with 8 guys, and he told us he was going ahead, even though he didn't get the magic 10 guys. Lucky for him, as I'd have been at the next board meeting with a major axe to grind if he didn't.
