Years ago, I ended up with the top end (no base) of an original. The windage knob is finely diamond knurled and the opposite end, which adjusts the backlash in the windage knob, has a small hex section against the sight body.

A real Pope 200yd sight picture …. Scroll down and note the lever pin.  It is a split ring.  eBay lever is full circle

I have two Pope sights. One is an original as I bought the Pope long before Parts Unkown and or Red River had started making them. Then I also bought a Parts Unkown reproduction. So after supper I am going to examine them both. I had already decided I did not like the Windage Knob knurl on this one. I also see what looks like a Plastic insert inside the Elavation box and do not remember that as a Pope system. His elavation system was I beleive made difficult to manage because he beleived shooters were too quick to start messing with them. So we will see. HTH regards, FITZ. OLD TUCK. Wink

These are some pictures of Pope tang sights. As far as I can tell, Pope used original bases and he made different heights for each rifle, Winchester, Ballard, etc.

This seller has sold many, rare sights. I bought a Farrow sight and others from him. He inherited the collection … but the original collector was well known.

I have always assumed that Pope's sights were likely made in small batches if not to order, so I would not be surprised, especially with Pope being someone who cared particularly about performance and improving same, if changes were made here and there.  Note, for example, the significant differences in the pairs of height adjustment nuts in the two claimed original Stevens-Pope sights.  On the other hand, I'd expect the Red River/Parts Unknown versions to be cookie-cutter consistent.  Therefore, does anyone have one of those "reproductions" to compare with the eBay offering?

Its not a Red River. The Red River base has two Holes in the front for Two different mountings, Ballard and Stevens I think. If its not a real Pope its a great copy. I think Mike Stevens made some and all of Mike's sights you couldn't till from the originals. Joe Ruth may have made a few I'm not sure, You'd have to check with Joe.

This sight is from well established and experienced collector. I know he had this sight in his collection for almost 40 years.
I trust his knowledge that it is an original.

Ballards may be weaker,

Joe Ruth made a limited run of the Pope sight. I bought one from him about ten years ago. Very accurate reproduction.
