	Pope Barrels made at "Jersey City" were some times stamped that way, BUT! Pope had a one piece stamp that is one piece and so his stamp is all in a straight line. I have a Jersey City Pope in .25 Neidner Krag caliber and it is stamped H.M.Pope. That stamp on the Borchardt is all cockeyed. Hand stamped with single hand held stamps. HTH Regards FITZ OLD TUCK.

	Pope was basically a perfectionist and it would be hard for me to believe that he was actually the one who stamped it. Unfortunately there are those who are trying to make money on something that could be very Fraudulent. Most stamps are actually made as a single piece. They are not individual letters that have to be stamped separately as are these.

	Fakes are too common. I just watched a fake Stevens 418 go for nearly $1600 on Gunbroker. I explained this to the seller but he did not change the listing. Somebody's gonna be mighty disappointed (or P.O.'d) if he ever finds out. Will it eventually be sold on, still misidentified as a 418? Inquiring minds want to know. Meanwhile it's caveat emptor.

	Look at the rifles .. there are Stevens 44’s advertised that are Stevens 44 1/2’s even on the auction sites….

	I have seen several Barry Darr stamped fakes being up for sale in the past. From Lube Pumps to Barrels. Some have actually been quit convincing but there were certain things that he also did that were also unknown to most for being able to copy.

Usually when I inform a seller that their 44 is not a 44-1/2, or vice versa, they'll thank me and change the listing. It's just that they don't know the difference. Most people don't. Ditto Favorites listed as 44s. Last week I saw a Favorite with a Remington barrel grafted on advertised as a rare Remington Rolling Block, for a price that would be absurd for a #4. I informed the seller, and he pulled the listing. Later relisted it correctly, penny start. But the guy with the "418" never even answered me.

	Well, there's fake Van Goghs, even fake Andy Warhols, fake French Renaissance furniture, and fake stamps and coins, so why shouldn't we have our share?

	And why its best to purchase such items especially firearms from a reputable auction house or directly from the owner who should also have its providence. Gary Quinlan is also one who comes to mind as being a totally honest person.
