Ballard rifles took first and second place this weekend at the Bitteroot 100 shot match.

Joe, glad to hear that.

Wonderful Ballard... yes they are and it seemed to light a fire again, at least for the weekend.  I'm not going to hi-jack Mick's post - too much anyway.  I got a couple of castings threaded and some breech blocks, internals, and wood underway.  Maybe another post in the near future.

That sight is a Parts Unknown Pope sight.

Both thumbs down!

What, did I get it wrong? What is it then? I got it from Buffalo Arms a long time ago.

I have a PU Pope tang sight.  If you touch it, the windage adjustment will probably change.  Very sloppy work for too many $$.

I'm a little slow Waterman, I understand what you were getting at now.   Embarrassed
I had one I picked up and it had similar issues, and a windage front sight too.  I let the Pope rear go away to someone needing it worse, but for the front sight, I used a little machinist in a drum - green locktite- it took a couple times to get it just right -take it apart, apply, let it cure, carefully scrape to fit.  I'm using it this year on a Ballard.

Oh, I thought maybe I got the manufacturers name wrong.

I had the same problem with mine when I got it. The cross slide was the only sloppy part of the sight. I moved the slide all the way to one side then using a center punch upset some metal with a punch mark to tighten the slide. Have been using the sight for many years with no issues.  It worked flawlessly last weekend when making many windage adjustments in a match. And no pesky staff sticking up to hit the brim of my hat.  Smiley

I had the opportunity to examine one of the Pope Sight reproductions Sergio was selling.  He sent it to Ken Hurst who loaned it to me long enough to do a review for the SSR Journal.  Nice sight, but it was cumbersome to adjust.  The similarly styled sight made by Lyman (Model 52??) is much more user friendly. JMHO, YMMV.
