One for sale on Gunbroker.  (Not mine.)

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Has a broken and crudely repaired buttstock, and the tang sight is missing, but you don't see these every day.

There are people who can repair this. Not cheap to have it done. The other problem is it's .25 Stevens.

Substitute a centerfire breechblock and you can shoot a reloadable .25 Stevens made from Hornet brass.  Or reprime/reload fired OEM shells using the Sharpshooter Supply kit.

Note the serial number!  Did Stevens run a series unique to the model?

The broken stock could be used as a pattern to machine out a new one.

If I were younger (and healthier) I'd buy it, but I'd negotiate a lower price.  Very few of them around.   But I've already got many more projects than I can finish.

Were the ladies model a favorite sized action?

Threaded?

ETA. Nevermind it isn't a favorite.

ETA 2. Well maybe it is a favorite.

It must be a Favorite size frame, as the all-up weight is 5 lbs., which the seller confirmed to me a couple of days ago.

I seem to recall Grant writing that the barrels were threaded in.

----- update

Except that he saw one chambered .25 Stevens that was the typical "slip-in".   More Single Shot Rifles pp. 25.

I see the barrel or rifle was dropped on the muzzle pretty hard.  That may hurt accuracy, if you can work out ammo.  Are yall saying it's a rimfire round now?  Not the .25-20 Centerfire?

I have a 56 Ladies rifle, based on the small 044 1/2 action.  It shoots fantastically in .22 LR and .22 Short.

The .25 Stevens is the rimfire round.  Grant says that there were Model 55 rifles chambered for the .25-20 centerfire round. The action being essentially the 1894 Favorite, I would think that those would have "shot loose" very quickly, the breech thrust of the .25-20 being 60% more than the rimfire version.

Most of the ladies model favorites I’ve seen up for sale were in .25 Stevens rimfire, at least to me they seem more common than being in .22 long rifle. I believe that the ladies model favorites were offered in .22-15-60 centerfire in Stevens catalogs.

I also noticed the large ding at the muzzle, I am guessing that it may have happened at the same time the stock was broken???

Had a shooting Buddy that had a Ladys Model. Beautifull Rifle. 25-20 SS and shot good. He was very frugal (His Wife Issue) So he found a full box of 25-20 SS at some outrages price. So he only loaded one round and reloaded it on the line for about ten years. Did not want to take a chance on the other 49 new Brass condition. Finally one day some one distracted him and he managed to throw a double charge of whatever he was using and destroyed the shell. He was so distraught he was nearly in tears. No damage to the Rifle, no rung chamber. Rifle still shot as well as it had but shortly later he and his Wife parted company. He then went on a bender buying new and different rifles and I never saw the Model 55 again. He has since passed and the 55 was sold by his estate and it went so fast I did not have a chance to make an offer. Bah! FITZ, OLD TUCK

Well, somebody's interested in it, even as beat-up as it is - it's up to $700 with a day left to go.
