Punch im "Flintlovck Rifles" and see what you get.   You will see a lot of percussion rifles as well as an occassional trapdoor.   Maybe, in "new speak" anything with a big hammer is a flintlock.

Never sold a gun on Gun Broker. I did purchase a Mannlicher Schoenauer, I was very pleased with the transaction, the rifle was better than described, perfect in every way. The price was reasonable. Maybe I just got lucky. I have seen Swiss martinis advertised as German schuetzen. As with any auction, the buyer should do as much do diligence as possible.

Guys,

I'm an FFL & have sold several hundred firearms (mostly BPCR rifles) using Gun Auction (old AuctionArms), GunsAmerica, GunBroker and recently Guns International.  Here’s my general opinion – mostly from a sellers point of view.  If you plan to sell at a fixed price Guns International is my preferred site with GunsAmerica as 2nd choice.  Guns International only charges $15/listing regardless of the item price, does a better job of screening sellers & buyers than all the other sites plus, as a classified or listing-only site, they’re not required to collect sales taxes.

GunBroker is by far the largest auction site with a huge following; has the highest fees (based on the selling price) and does collect sales tax based on the state rules the rifle is shipped to.  For example, a rifle sold on GunBroker for $2000 to a Texas resident would cost the seller $76.25 and the buyer would pay a sales tax of $125.  GunsAmerica would charge the seller $80 & no sales tax.  The Gun Auction fee would be $38.13.  The same rifle would only cost the seller $15 on Guns International but remember it’s not an auction sites.  Auction sites tend to maximize the sales price due to competitive bidding, buyers emotions, etc.

Based on fees alone Gun Auction should be the best auction site from a seller’s point of view.  But, although being in business for many years, Gun Auction has not garnered the massive following & visibility enjoyed by GunBroker, the market leader is firearm auctions.

Concerning GunBroker collecting sale tax, if a buyer is an FFL dealer with a state sales tax license, the buyer is exempt from paying sale tax if and only if the buyer has previously submitted their tax exemption documentation to GunBroker.com for review and has subsequently been set up as tax-exempt buyer.  If the same FFL dealer or anyone else sells a firearm then GunBroker determines the appropriate sales tax which is added to the sale price for the seller to collect.  The seller is then required to submit the sale tax amount to GunBroker for distribution to the appropriate state.

Having used the 4 noted sites I’m now using Guns International exclusively.  To compensate for the possible fixed price vs. auction benefits, one can 1st list the item for a relatively high price than later reduce it until the item sells.

I should add that after using all four companies/services noted above I have not had a significant problem with any of them.  And GunBroker does have a Customer Service number you can call & leave a message: 720-223-0164 ext 3006.

Of course there are exceptions but I believe most of the problems are caused by incomplete of poorly worded listing & lack of sufficient information.  Poor photos and description can cause many problems as can poorly worded details about price, shipping, etc.
Also not following-up quickly enough on both the seller's and buyer's end.

Having a problem with GB now. Buyer of a rifle from me has a sales tax liscense. GB automaticly collected taxes from me anyway. Contacts from me seem to be going down a black hole. Automated reply from GB says they will look into it. Several weeks and no response from them. No way to call them and talk to a real person. Thanks for nothing GB.

I think that GB is actually breaking the law on two fronts.
1) Sales Tax in Florida is charged for merchandise, not for service.  We are not buying merchandise from GB.  We are buying a service, namely an ad.  Therefore they are taking our money for something they are not providing~!
2) In Florida, Sales Tax is not required to be charged or paid
on a "casual sale" (i.e. between two individuals).  When I have a garage sale every two of so years, I'm not required to report those sales to the state nor am I required to collect and remit tax.
GB is wrong~!  And that's my story; a retired Public Accountant~!

My brother is going round and round with GB on a Gold Cup he bought going on four weeks now from a lady in Texas.  Won the auction, sent a Bank Check, no pistol sent.  He has had several contacts with GB, and they have done NOTHING to help him.  They refuse to ban the seller, or require either the GC be shipped or a refund.
I will have nothing to do with them.

I quit using Gunbroker over ten years ago. They were excellent but something changed, for the worse.  Sad

I'll not cut off my nose to spite my face - if I see something I can't live without on GB I bite my rancorous tongue and bid. No problems to date but I've heard a bazillion horror stories.  All in all, the times I bought guns on GI have been much more likeable - I'm getting to hate auctions.
