I have this borrowed mold with automatic sprue cutting and replaceable cavities.  I would like to know more about it before I try hard to buy it.
OH, it works "beautifully".

What you have is a copy of a Pope automatic bullet mold.

Made by James Mclemore in the 80s. I have serial number 51. And it looks just like that one. I got mine from George Mccluney

Mr. Mclemore appeared middle-aged in the one photo of him working that I remember seeing, and I think he also attempted to rifle barrels in the Pope style.  He was located in Indiana, in the northwestern area, I think, and my impression is that he was in business for only a few years.

In any case, his copies of Pope's Automatic Universal Mould were very nicely made.

Indeed , this MC Lemor automatic mold is finely made from castings. I kind of thought it might be a copy or at least in the tradition of the Pope mold.
This one is Ser No 72
Thank you

Boggles the mind what a fascinating mold . I’d like very much to hear from an owner/user how it is used and the do’s and don’t’s.  And what was Pope thinking designing and building such a device ?  Was it broad shot marketing or more specific ?

One has  to.wonder if the  casting molds are kicking around somewhere  that someone could revive them?  I sure would  like one just "because."

The Pope desire was to have a Universal Mold the took different Cavitys and was fast to use. I have seen somewhere in print a statement that his tool could creat
1200 bullets per hour. Now I cannot remember where and have no idea if the figure is correct. But I do know of a couple in our area and nobody that has one and cavitys that are correct for some Rifle they own that will even consider selling them, except of course until age and or ill health shows them a horizon on their shooting activity's. I have to say that on the one run I made with the LEMORE/pope
mold, it is indeed fast. Just open and dump, refill, open and dump, etc. What with the brass or bronze "cavity" it heated up to temp very quickly, too.
Imagine, this mold (holder) would be very expensive to reproduce, what with the castings and then much precise machining. I suppose CNC would help speed up mfg.
But, how many of us would pay a fair modern price and therefore how many would be sold. It would have to be a "labor of love" for someone to build some of these. Probably not profitable

As of Yesterday, I now own the MC LEMORE automatic bullet mold. The cavity is at this time a copy of the old Saeco RG4 30 caliber conical nose gas check bullet

beltfed,

I have always thought these were great machine skills. If you change your mind, I would be very happy to take it off your hands, and provide you with a lucrative profit.

Not an auto cut off mould but here is one Barry Darr made and B&D / Borton and Darr once offered for sale. This one just happens to be Barry's own personal inter changeable bullet mould and also quite rare.
