	So if I work up a load with a GC bullet, will I be able to: a) use the same load for that bullet without the GC - either by not putting it on or by opening it up to plain base full diameter. b) should/could I expect similar accuracy for optimum load for each?

	I shot an noe 9.3 mold sans GC with light loads of Unique and it shot as well as the 366408 in a #1.it shot a bit better with gascheck though. I think you have that mold

	If you use the same load, and it's near full speed with the check, you may have problems with using the bullet less its diaper. If the load is a typical sort that unchecked slugs do well at, it may be fine. I have a couple that do well unchecked, and some that go all to hell. You just need to try treating it as if it a new bullet being tested. It sort of is in my mind. Sometimes, it can fail if you have the check's rebate cut out. I made plain base out of a cheap Lee mold that shot fair with checks, but went all to waste as straight sides and plain base.

I think you have that mold I DO have that mould, but in this case I'm playing with the 357 Max in a Ruger #1.

	I use a Lyman 375449 two cavity mould in my 38-55 rifles. I had Tom Ballard open up the base of one cavity so I could cast a plain base bullet. The plain base bullet comes out a bit heavier than the gas checked one. How it performs depends on the rifle. In one of my Winchester 38-55s I could shoot the same load with either bullet and get equal accuracy. This was a hunting rifle, not a target one though. In another Winchester both bullets shot OK with the same load, but the gas check bullet definately had the edge over the plain base one. In my Remington 1 1/2, I usually shoot the plain base bullet (black powder) but the gas check one also seems to have an edge here as well. George
