Don Blose was from Pennsylvania and since 30+ years a friend of Germany and traditional shooters.
He went very often to Germany and was a close friend to the Kuchenreuter gunsmith dynasty.
 
I wrote an orbituary in German, here is the english translation.
 
Our American-German shooting buddy Don Blose passed away on July 17, 2021, now over 80 years old. Fellow shooters who have been shooting German schuetzen rifles for many years have known him. This is because Don used to visit Germany at least once a year for several months and participated in many shooting matches. 
Above all, he was always at the Feuerstutzen match in Cham (region of Oberpfalz, Bavaria), he was also a visitor of the annual Gams-Match for zimmerstutzens in Oberammergau - although he himself did not shoot the zimmers very often. But to the Oberland (the region south of Munich close to the Alps) he had many friends.

For decades, Don was always happy to help "re-import" schuetzen rifles from the U.S. to Germany that had made their way across the pond after World War 2.  That's because he was passionated about collecting and shooting old German schuetzen rifles since the 1970s in his native state Pennsylvania. Even into his old age, he always had an open ear when it came to help his friends in Germany and U.S. with spare parts or his knowledge. For this he always deserves a big thank you!

The last time I met Don was in the USA, in May 2017 at a large OGCA gun show in Wilmington, Ohio. We sat together for two days, sharing stories and knowledge and had a real good time.
Don would have loved to come to Germany last year to celebrate his 80th birthday with his friends, but Corona and travel restrictions unfortunately prevented that.

We thank Don for all he did for his friends in Germany and U.S., for the knowledge he passed on and for the time we were able to spend with him. We will never forget him!
 
 

I knew Don from the OGCA , he was a friend of Charlie Dell’s, and very informative on German rifles, he was a nice easy going man.  Ledball

Donald L. Blose, age 81 of DuBois, PA, died Friday, July 16, 2021 at his home.
Born on May 22, 1940 in DuBois, PA, he was the son of the late Donald G. and Mary “Vada” (Maloney) Blose.
Don was a veteran of the United States Army.
He retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Social Services as an investigator after many years of service. Previous to that he had worked at Penn Traffic Riverside.
Don was a graduate of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and had a Masters Degree from Xavier University. He was a member of the Ohio and Pennsylvania Antique Gun Collectors Club. Don frequented Austria and Germany often dealing Antique Schuetzen rifles and spending time with his many friends there. He also loved to golf and hunt.

Don is survived by one daughter (Stacy Sandy and her husband Pat of Urbana, OH), two grandchildren (Ryan Tilson and his wife Alexis and Arrah Sandy both of Ohio), two great grandchildren (Reagan and Skylar Tilson) and one sister.


There will be no public visitation and a private service will be held.
