	I ordered a copy from Cornell of the Ideal 1911 Handbook and Catalog No. 22. It has a wealth of information on how various cartridges were loaded to different levels; recommendations from various shooters, like Hudson; what different moulds were designed for; and descriptions and instructions for all sorts of Ideal tools, some of which we might not even recognize as loading tools today. Item #1462 $15.95 This is the time period when John Barlow sold the Ideal Company to Marlin and includes Barlow's letter explaining the sale. Of special interest is which bullets do and don't work in the numbered loading tools. A lot of neat adverts at the end. Almost forgot - a nice explanation why moulds should be filled with a contact dipper and never poured;-)

	Just think! Even back then, guys knew that contact dippers worked best.

	Are they saying bottom pour or ladle pour it is a bit unclear what is actually being said. If bottom pour not for competitive benchrest shooting but probably fine for hunting or shooting steel targets. That is unless you can bottom pour bullets and they will all be within 4 tenths max. or less.

	Basically it said that full contact and rotation was the only way to guarantee perfect bullets every time (which was why the Ideal ladle had a spout that was a perfect fit for the Ideal sprue plate).

	So it did mean to Ladle pour with a ladle having a contact spout and I do totally agree with that.

	Cornell U. Press is a real treasure for anybody interested in arcane or obscure printed sources. They also have libraries on almost every technical and scientific journal, book or treatise relevant to today’s Universities and research tanks. I’ve been a contributor by donations for about thirty years and a constant user. I also tap the LOC ( Library of Congress ) for prints but Cornell is easier, often better quality and cheaper. You have to mine these sites so there is some work involved. Rick

	If you want to shoot at something cast your bullets with a bottom pour pot. If you want to hit something use a ladle. 40 Rod
