Yep Big and heavy as they are Arbor press is a precise metal forming tool.

As you mentioned above, if I want even more precise I make a hardwood buck so when I press something it's exactly as I need.
Beats using a hammer, or the edge of the bench to get close.

Only making light of a situation. Thin skins!!! I am aware that the arbor press is the better tool for the job at hand. No pun intended.

No offense taken! Am a paid influencer for the antique arbor press industry. Always looking the chance to plug them

Mine is much smaller, and has not chuck. Just a press that I modified to be able to clip on various heads for different work. Mine is a table top model, so for small projects.
If I need big I have a 12 ton hydraulic press in the shop.

The removable chuck clamps on the Ram to handle small punches etc. My small arbor press square Ram has 3/8 inch hole with a set screw one end & does the same thing. Holding the punch tool in place is useful. Repeat work like cutting out wads return spring on the Ram works well too.

Big one was for sale long time price kept dropping, guy had talk me into to buying it for scrap value.  Lot of cleaning and paint later it’s become often used tool. Big Presses cheaper than small that have a hobbyist following, commercial shops have gone to hydraulic . Little interest in the big ratchet presses.

I bought my big hydraulic press when I had an axle bearing go out, and I stopped at auto parts store to buy a bearing and have them press it on. It was 45 minutes before closing, and the guy told me it was too close to closing for him to do it that day!
I told him I could be done in less than 10 minutes if he let me use his press. Of course he wouldn't. So ran down the road to a tool peddler and they happened to have the 12 ton hydraulic press on sale for $109. So I bought it and went home and assembled it and pressed my bearing on.
Rarely use it, but enough times to pay for it now.

Very nice base, and needed for the thicker bases some sights use. Does the adapter come with longer screws also? Or does it even need longer screws?
