Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I just was curious if they reshaped the firing pin tip when the conversion was done. Apologies if it upset things by asking.

Not upset in the least, Vall; just curious myself if there was any significance in your question.  No one ever asked it before and I had never had even a fleeting thought about checking it.

I have a Highwall with a 29.75 inch barrel which measures .980 at the breech and .620 at the muzzle. It's a .22 lr. It has left hand twist rifling. There are no marks on the barrel. I'm wondering if it's one of the Pope Krag barrels. Trying to post pictures.

If it is a Pope barrel for a Krag, it will have a barrel shank 0.750" long with a diameter of 0.980" and square threads, 10 T.P.I., with a diameter of 0.940" at the bottom of the threads.  The Krag barrel is also 0.980" diameter at the action.

IIRC, a Highwall action requires a shank 0.850" long and 0.935" diameter, with 16 V-shaped T.P.I.

So maybe it once was one of the Pope Krag barrels, but no longer.  The threads for the Krag were removed to adapt the barrel to a Highwall.  Is there a 3- or 4-digit number stamped crossways under the forearm?
