Possible Pope Krag .22

I have a Highwall with a 29.75 inch barrel which measures .980 at the breech and .620 at the muzzle. It's a .22 lr. It has left hand twist rifling. There are no marks on the barrel. I'm wondering if it's one of the Pope Krag barrels. Trying to post pictures.

The barrel appears to be badly twisted on the outside, don't know if Pope did this on his barrels.

Think the "twisted" look is an optical illusion.
But it also appears the barrel has been threaded off center to make a CF firing pin strike the rim of the .22RF. Something the best old school gunsmiths did when using CF breech blocks with RF barrels.

The twisted look happened when I re-sized the pictures. It is an optical illusion.

Offset Bore/chamber. Val I agree the bore is offsett. The Bore looks like he took it up to 12:00 so that would mean it strikes on the bottom of the Rim. Does that seem right to you? FITZ, OLD TUCK. Smiley

The bore is offset and the firing pin strikes at 6 o'clock. Any speculation about who might have made it would be welcome.

Yes, they always go either 12 or 6 o'clock, as 9 and 3 would not work. I have one that is also set up for 12 o'clock strike. Guessing more were than 6 o'clock, as that might make the barrel sit above the receiver?
Neat part is you could still screw a CF barrel on, and have both work with the same firing pin!

Off-center reboring was also sometimes done for the opposite reason.  For example, I have a Stevens .22RF barrel rebored off-center by Pope so that the unmolested rimfire firing pin now discharges .32 Ideal shells just fine.

Does the RF pin leave a rectangle strike on the primers?

The things I'm sometimes asked.  Anyway, I don't have any case with spent primers and it's been a long time since I've handled that rifle - a tip-up model - so I had to go check.  And, yes, Vall, the firing pin's nose is indeed a very narrow rectangle, almost blade-like.  Is that in some way significant?
