Firing a few, 3 or 4, cartridges with a charge of Unique or pistol powder, a case full of Cream of Wheat and a wad or dab of lube/vaseline to hold  the CoW in will take out any leading I've ever seen.
This  has been common knowledge for 20 years and more.
Did we forget?

I agree that Mercury is the easiest way to clean lead fouling, but I recently read an article on a home brew of hydrogen peroxide and vinegar to remove leading.  I haven’t tried it, but the article is at:  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

AJ you are correct that this formula will attack lead but —  This will require 30% hydrogen peroxide which is industry or lab grade and really nasty stuff, I mean very dangerous. As a strong oxidizer it will fry your lungs and mucous membranes plus it’s a very volatile fire risk and as a bonus explosive. Add the fact that it’s very corrosive to many steel and stainless alloys and you get my point

I read the link to say white vinegar and hyrogen peroxide. Did not say lab grade HP.

Are you saying the information is wrong? It won't work?

Westerner you busted me for a error on my part. First nobody said white or red vinegar cause what we need is acetic acid both have it. I errored by noting 30% strength when I meant to say industrial 68% + strength.  The point being is that generally over the counter drug store Hyd Peroxide is weak 3-6% solution and will most likely fail to do the job. 30% solutions may well work with some agitation and help but the stronger more dangerous 68% solution is what industry and labs use. Strong H202 is very volatile and in my opinion much more dangerous than mercury and not worth the risk. Sorry for the confusion

I'd try the Cream of Wheat. It's food grade and, unlike grits, it's not addictive;-) I have noted that after fire forming the barrel appears quite clean.

I recall during one my last trips to Perry (89-90 I believe ) I recall several of the USMC and other military competitors repeating the old lead-out recipe of shooting a dozen or more hot jacketed bullets to ‘ wipe the bore clean ‘ . What a croc by a bunch of shooters who doubtfully ever clean their own guns.

The link to the vinegar/ hydrogen peroxide lead removal solution uses the weak, drug store variety, H2O2.  I have no idea how well it works since I’ve never used it, but if someone does decide to give it a try, perhaps they will pass on the results. I would, however, be careful to keep it away from extended contact with bluing as it may ( or may not) act as a blue remover.

cardmark1 makes an important point. Looks good but there is steel/iron under the wash coat of copper.

Pure copper scouring pads are available if you search for them.  I used some to fill the vents in the bottom of the exterior brick on our house allowing water to leak out but prevents insects from getting in.
