There's also a kit on the market for reloading your spent primers.

Marlinguy  Be vewy, vewy quiet. I just checked Rotometals, and prices were the same as last I bought, but don't shake the tree too hard.

Not so difficult to make black powder.   You can get KNO3 a lot easier than extracting it from manure.   Many of the stump remover powders sold are 99% KNO3.   Charcoal can be had at the local grocery store;  but I'm not sure where a good cheap source of sulphur might be.   Maybe capture it while smelting galena (PbS) for the lead.

Oh, heck.  You can buy sulfur on Amazon.  Assuming there still IS an Amazon after the apocalypse.  Used as a fungicide by gardeners.  Also as an acne treatment, and it is the principle ingredient in dandruff shampoos.

Got to smelt the galena anyway, so just do it in a retort and condense the sulphur!   I got the stump remover on Amazon.   Had to buy 4 pints to get a decent price.  That's for nitrating the paper on my percussion Sharps and one pint will probably last a lifetime.   Hope it never gets to the point where we have to make our own powder.

I'll stop shooting if I have to make my own, or rebuild my own primers. Thank God I've got enough primers to last my lifetime left.

I once bought a 1000 pounds of pure lead to last me a lifetime. I ran out of it about nine years ago as I started going out to experiment and to also practice allot more. I saw it coming so I tried buy another 1000 pounds and the fellow who had it decided to keep it and the price was only fifty cents a pound. Long story short I should have bought enough to last me two lifetimes instead of just one.

Sung to the tune of Where Have All The Flowers Gone:

Where have all the primers gone?
Long time passing.
Where have all the primers gone?
Long time ago.
Where have all the primers gone?
The guys have shot them every one.
Oh, When will you ever learn?
Oh, When will you ever learn?

Old guys
Shoot schuetzen rifles every one.
Young men
They're all using AR fifteens.
Old friends
They've gone to ranges every one.
Ranges
Covered with spent primers every where.
Primers
The guys have shot them every one.

They make a pretty fair showing at Camp Perry. Of course they are not the ones out hosing down the countryside. A lot of people I know, myself included, bought one just because we, as law abiding citizens, can. Sort of a show of solidarity.

Just bought 5000 Winchester 209 shotgun primers. Local fellow sold reloading supplies at gun shows. No shows last 15 months due COVID he’s liquidating to guys “ in the know”.  Price double last years retail.

No Rifle any size or my Favorite for 32/40 & 38/55 Large Pistol.

About 1500 LP on hand & use about 200 per month. Will have to ration if I want to make it through the year.

Boats, if it’s any help to you, see my offer in the Chinquapin event announcement.  Maybe I can ease the pain a little.

Froggy that’s a kind offer & one I may take advantage of. One day offhand Targets.  Missed you last year overnight In Gretna deluge next morning turned and ran back home

Likely to shoot rim & CF. Have a fair supply of .22 ammo. The shotgun primers a real help, my grandsons shooting 100-200 a week. Recent outings with him I pull Targets do not shoot due short supply.
