Awful slim barrel for the period, especially for a long-distance rifle.

The picture shown is not the work of Howard Terpning.  It is a poor copy of his work by someone.  If you think me wrong, get on the net and google Howard Terpning Long Shot and closely compare the two.
Terpning's shows a raised rear sight, heavier barrel, also look at the shooters right eye.  Too many discrepancies to bother listing them all.
Howard Terpning is well known and highly regarded for being historically accurate in his work.  I have several of his prints including this one and what you show is not his work.

Terpning did an incredible amount of work featuring Indians.  I have a whole book of them, and am dickering for a nice framed print of his,  "The Last of the Buffalo."

It is hard to imagine, there were so few left, from the vast herds that once roamed fully two thirds of this country. A very sad tale of greed and misguided intentions. A shameful page in our history.

Howard Turpning, and he's still alive.
