Gard72977, is this your first breechloader or are you talking about first time breech seating?

Sounds like you're off to a good start! You may also want to pick up Loading and Shooting Traditional American Schuetzen Rifles, really good reference for this activity.
Take Care,
Scott

Got it! The book has answered many questions.

The people I work with are sick of hearing about Schuetzen. They are mostly "Black Rifle" guys. I do have one friend that has intrest in single shot rifles.

Personally, I prefer the Neil Jones (CPS) powder measure.  I got mine about 40+ years ago.  It will hold less than .05gr deviance with most powders even today.  It is so accurate, PPC benchrest shooters do not ask for a powder weight, they simply ask for a "click setting...".

I use a Harrel Schuetzen measure but it is also limited to only dropping smaller charges of powder. Three clicks give me a tenth of a grain when using my favorite powder. That being 300MP and also a ball powder. As you noted I too only use the clicks once my powder charge has been established. This also gives me the ability to make small changes to keep up with the temperature changes through out the day and for me they are typically required. This I also do at the bench when breech seating by only using the clicks on the powder measure.
