I will included lots of pics. so from what I have learned so far my receiver s/n 3224 DST was made 1903-1906ish?  It's marked with 44 1/2, EX and the O.  The barrel is a 34inch 22lr that has been relined marked J. Stevens A & T  s/n 5063. The receiver was deep engraving on it.  One side is the Indiana state seal the other side is the Ohio state seal.  This has to mean something to someone.  The engraving is beautiful and there is what I think is a engravers name in maybe Japanese? All the screws are engraved including the two on the block that you cant even see when the gun is together.  The wood has is marked E. K. 11-71'.  I'm guess someone fitted new wood and that's the person and the date. The gun has a Stevens 104 Wind Gauge Vernier Tang Sight in back. Its missing the two nuts for the wind gauge part. I have a 2-56 tap coming so I can machine a couple new ones. I need dimensions if someone has one they can measure and maybe a couple of up close pictures.  There is a odd little sight in one dovetail and a 2nd dovetail was cut, then later filled that went thru b
arrel marking stamp.  So here is the Question I have, 

-Does anyone recognized the engravers mark?   
-Does anyone have any thought on meaning of the two state seals?
-Did Stevens reline barrels back in the day? If so how do I know? 
-Does the 22L.R. mark on the barrel look like an original Stevens stamp?
-If it was a original 34" barrel in 22L.R. its pretty rare, right?

A very charming rifle and allot of work went into it. It makes one wonder why they didn't go ahead and spend the time to also clock all of the screws. 
You have one very nice rifle and one that should provide you with allot of enjoyment over the years. In regards to the barrel length a friend of mine had an original Stevens with a 36 inch barrel installed in it. Back in the day one could easily get a rifle with custom length barrels such as these from the various firearms manufacturers at that time.

Kyairgunner, could you post a picture of the breech end of your barrel, and a close up picture of your tang sight?

Beautiful and interesting rifle. Wish it could talk so you could get the whole story behind it.

Buy two extra taps, use plenty of thread cutting oil, and clear your chips more frequently that you would with a larger thread.

Also, I'm much intrigued by the oriental characters behind the trigger, which I presume are the engraver's "chop".  Surely someone on one of engraving forums will recognize that mark.

Hi bill, I went pretty slow. Cleaned chips after one turn. Real cheap tap. Lots of flex. Ordered two more taps. Should have thought to order several taps.
