Help with Unertl scope
Apr 21st, 2021 at 6:37pm
Print Post
I need help identifying my just purchased Unertl scope. Its 19 in long. The objective is non adjustable, and is 2-1/2 in diameter. The tube is 13/16 in dia. The eye piece is 1-1/4 in dia. It is 10 power and is #28558. The mounts look like a hex nut on the outside, and the adjustment is a knurled wheal between the mount body and the tube. The eye piece has a couple of dings on the rim, where it has been dropped. It looks like it will work ok, but was considering trying to work out the dings but don't want to damage the threads. Any idea on model information or where I might send it to to get the dings removed from the eyepiece rim? Thanks!

But he said it had a 2 1/2 inch objective, not 1 1/4?

He also said it was 19" long. A 2" Ultra Varmint would have been 24 " long.

weneedto may be using the outside diameter, as opposed to the actual lens diameter.

rkba2nd, you are correct. All dimentions above are outside and with a tape measure. That's all I had handy. Anyone know where I might find any parts for a Unertl?

There was a fellow who was doing repairs on Unertl scopes, and I believe he used to work for them. I would have to scrounge for his information, but will try. I have not heard any talk of him for quite some time, so maybe not doing repair work any longer. Your best bet might be to find a basket case on ebay, or post here for parts needed. Maybe someone else here can fill in the blanks as to his whereabouts.

Optical Service Co in NM will do it all and reasonably fast if you catch them at the right time. This is Bill Ackerman’s shop which is run by his daughter Cheryl. Ackerman was Weaver’s main man when they were in Texas.  I used to use Parsons and Premier in VA, I think, but they are either out of business or I undependable anymore. Good luck

I would try Optical Services, I have had good service and work from them, but they do state that they do not do repair work, but an inquiry about your particular problem might get a positive response.

You’re right and I forgot they shy away from repairs. But I know they will restore reticles and will rebuild and restore the old high quality Weavers. I had them do a T-20 and bump to 32X and it’s as crisp and sharp as any of my turret top bench and varmint scopes. But good luck cause scope mechanics are drifting off the edges.
