The CPA is a decent unit. And my preference is their Schoyen wood grip for it. At $145 total I think it's a decent price too.
I like some door knob style too, as long as the knob isn't too large.

You need try some of the various styles if you can. Some are more comfortable / user friendly than others and by far. The placement can also be a bit critical but easy enough to fix if the link is similar to CPA's. As you can add to it / make a new extension if you need to get it back closer towards you if need be. This to achieve the correct weight distribution that will actually fit your own needs. Below is an example of someone having to do just that.

My opinion workmanship goes with Steve Earl and MVA. Fit and finish hands above. And prices are all close

Ys, both are very high quality, but neither sells anything but a door knob type rest. If you want the Schoyen style then CPA is the only one I know of?
MVA is very reasonably priced at $125.

As a reference I typically use a door knob  (used that to shot a 231 at Coors in 1991) and my build fits a CPA short stem well. I would like to outfit a couple of other rifles and found the CPA to be a bit loose. But, they donated a lot of stuff to Coors matches in the old days so if apples to apples I would go that way. But the Earl and MVA look more precise.

Thanks for the confirmation,
Charles

Neil Rice made my favorite.  If someone could duplicate these I think they would sell.

Neal Rice's were copies of the Schoyen. Similar to what CPA sells. This is my Neal Rice:

Ive always used CPA's but I carve out a wood blank to fit my hand. It ends up looking like the photos I have seen of Shalk's palm rest.

Have a Rice, MVA and a two CPA’s. In terms of quality I rate them in the same order as I listed. As far as the palm rests I have made my own for them all. No real preference, they all work well.

I prefer this one for my old original rifles.

I’ve seen pictures of a Ballard with a very short fore end, maybe 4”, that just had room to mount a knob type palm rest... very close to the receiver.  I want to say it was made by Berg(??) Does anyone know of one of those currently being made or even still in use? How well (or not) do/did they work?
