That clamp on of mine is cast in bronze and plated with something.

There is a foundry in Idaho Falls and I have been ringing there phone off the wall every day this week. No answer yet.  Just tried again but this time phone tells me the number is unasigned. Maybe they went the way of the Dodo bird.   Angry

Maybe you can get together with Rodney, and arrange to have some clamps cast up? I'd love to have a couple castings to build an old timey clamp type like yours!

Put me on the list for a couple sets of castings.

I talked to a man at a foundry at Blackfoot today. Emailed pictures to him but didn't hear back. I'll call him again tomorrow.  He told me he might know someone who can do castings if they cannot.  If I wanted ten thousand I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem, lol.

Not sure if Rodney does sand castings.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Rodney uses a foundry to do the casting for him.

I, too think that Westerner's palm rest "shaft" of brass or bronze is very nice for a early rifle/ballard ,etc
Seems to me it could be turned from brass stock.
And assembled to a separate "disc" that is screwed to the wood
"handle"

Joe's picture reminds me a little of the one that came with my Zischang highwall.  It doesn't clamp on though, it slides over the forearm and is held in place with friction.

The only markings on it are "Patent Appd F.O"

The palm rest came with an Aydt rifle I purchased a few years back; before it traveled to Westerner.

Just got off the phone with the foundry.  Said he'll get back to me after he consults his engineers. Engineers?! Holy cow, must be a big place!   Shocked

Oh, and he said they only cast with bronze.  Undecided
