Yes on the Muenier. I also prefer the Neal Rice palm rests that I have (especially the short stem version Neal made) but Steve E and MVA's are my next choices. Price is not much different from CPA and I make and fit my wood similar style to my Neal Rice rests.

Mine, from CPA.  Since I went there, it was made to the right size for me.

I know a very good OH shooter who prefers a small door knob style. Told me it makes the rifle feel heavier in his hand, which is what he prefers. Over many years I've seen many styles. Even a square piece of plywood.

I believe it was Mike Gibbs who used square piece of plywood, and he was one of, if not the best offhand shooters a couple decades ago. Many really good shooters, Lones Wigger, for example, cared little about appearance (form) but more about function, and winning!!!

Neal Rice finally persuaded Mike Gibbs to use something a little more in line with the quality of rifle used. Neal was also instrumental in organizing a traditional rifle class, partly for that very same reason.

SOMEDAY I will build the brackets to make this a palm rest - because it fits my hand!  (it is an ergonomic grip from a frame that held two 35mm  cameras.

Gents,

I really like the idea of that clamp on version that Westerner displayed.  It appears to be nickel plated, so can't tell if the saddle and clamp are made of brass or steel.  Are there any identifying marks on it?  This one is going on the roundtoit build list.

For those looking for a flat bottomed model, it looks like marlinguy is working up a rustic version for that really fine looking Ballard.

Some of the others sure resemble the T handle shifters Hurst used to make.

That clamp on of mine is cast in bronze and plated with something.

There is a foundry in Idaho Falls and I have been ringing there phone off the wall every day this week. No answer yet.  Just tried again but this time phone tells me the number is unasigned. Maybe they went the way of the Dodo bird.   Angry

Yep, roosting with the Dodo bird.  Out of business.  Still looking for a local foundry.

Hello,

I have extensive experience on this topic, from smallbore shooting in previous decades.

Considering classic equipment, which I know is an issue for many of the members on this board shooting standing, the easiest choice is the palmrest offered by CPA.  Second choice would be built up forend sometimes used on any single shot or early Springfield 300 meter guns.  Don't extend length/height of rest as is sometimes illustrated.

I got tired of carrying a wrench around so made this nifty nut.

Cooler than cool carving, bnice.   Smiley

Maybe you can get together with Rodney, and arrange to have some clamps cast up? I'd love to have a couple castings to build an old timey clamp type like yours!
