	A recent acquisition. The metal has seen some rust at one point but the bore is mint. Most likely a Swiss made Martini rifle Top flat marked: IOS. EGGER MERAN Under the barrel: Prim Kruppscher Gussstahland what appears to be a double-stamped zero, "11" and another zero. No proof marks. All internal parts stamped with a "3", some twice. Strange muzzle. It appears to be original as there's an alignment mark centered on the top flat just at the transition to round. Would love to know what it's for. And has anyone heard of this maker?

	I can't answer your questions, but I have a very nice old prewar German Mauser sporter with the same or similar turned extension. And like yours it looks to be deliberate, and done at the time the rifle was built.

	Nice looking rifle but it also begs to ask the question why the forearm appears to be checkered but the butt stock does not.

	Some muzzle loading target rifles had turned muzzles simular to that for a short starter that fit down over it. Never heard of it on Schuetzen rifles.

My Pope Ballard has a full round barrel and starter that fits directly on the barrel, without a false muzzle like most have.

	Perhaps for the attachment of a cleaning rod guide to prevent damage, as most martinis must be cleaned from the muzzle. I would hazard a guess that the one marking might be Krupp Guss Stahl (Krupp Steel). Just a couple of guesses. Mike

	The last RWS I bought was from Huntington Die Specialties. They don't give it away, but it lasts a long time, and one does not need a large number.

	Meran is currently Merano, Italy - so it used to be Austrian before WW I. So an Austrian rifle. Swiss rifles usually don't have peep sights, only open sights.
