My No.1 roller has a trigger spring made from a piece of main spring from an old clock. If anything it’s too light, but as long as I make sure if someone else is using it to let them know it’s a hair trigger, it is safe.

Yes, I was referring to people who don’t think before they pull the trigger and fluff the shot. Any trigger I touch must pass the rubber mallet test

That's got to be one of the best looking rollers I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing.

I agree. That one is very photogenic rifle. Well done!

I have two requests. If someone could post pictures...
ONe would be of the wire trigger spring.
The others would be of details of the reshaping of the "issue" trigger guard to sporting type shape. This requires thinning areas. Also reshaping the Hammer and block. The trigger guard is the one I find the least examples of to look at.
I am slowly moving forward on a learning project based in a Danish action and am looking for ideas.

Here's mine in the white before final polishing. Hammer reshaped, and rounded at the spur, but not checkered yet. Breech block reshaped also.
Trigger guar is actually a Remington Sporter, so didn't reshape it. But gives an idea of what's needed. The guards need to be thinned to sort of a knife edge, plus narrowed down front and back edges width wise in the middle.

Steve Durren wrote a very good series on re-working a military action into a more sporting configuration in the Journal, Vol. 56, 3-5 & 57, 1-3.
J.D. Steele had an article on re-shaping a military hammer in Vol. 56, no.1. Available from the archives.

Thanks, it is a 32” half octagon barrel in 40-70 SBN.  The barrel is basically home made and shoots ok but I have a Ron Smith barrel blank to put on it.  I had a single set trigger I installed but took it out a while ago.  When I change the barrel I will install the single set again.  I built it the year my daughter was born, she turns 25 this year!  Crazy!

I paid $60 for the action but back then they came in by the bucket load from Sweden.  The walnut I found locally at a hardware/lumber store.

Rex outstanding wood. The color case is on point also. You did your part putting it together very well done.    Regarding the trigger spring I use water jet cut.010 blue spring stock to get a light pull. The trigger and hammer notch will need to be stoned in a fixture to get a safe angle. Then a set screw installed in hammer in front of the notch to limit trigger en gagement .

Thanks for the picture. That hammer is slim and shapely. I think the trigger guard might be the hardest for me to get right. I want to see more and from different angles before I start into this one. I only get one chance to get it right   Roll Eyes.

Here's some pictures from the first Rolling Block I ever Sporterized about two decades ago. It was a pretty sad receiver, and I couldn't get all the pits out, so you can see some in the color cased parts.

This is a mixed bag of parts I got from the late Whitey Hanson. I don't think I got the hammer very pleasantly shaped, as I didn't shape it to get a curve back on the spur as I have on later hammers. Breech block spur came out OK though. I keep telling myself to pull the hammer out, and weld it up on the end so I can shape it down better, but it's such a great shooting rifle I hate to touch it.
It's a Green Mountain 1:16" twist .40 cal. chambered in .40-65 Win. Wood was shaped at Crossno's, but it was some blank I had sitting here. Buttplate is a skeletonized nickel silver engraved buttplate a friend gave me.
