Danish Rolling Blocks

Do the 1867 Model Danish Rolling Blocks make a good base to build a BPCR rifle on or should a Remington #1 be used instead?  Are all 1867 Dane's built before 1899 so qualify as antiques?  Thanks.  Tom

Danish, or Swedish are both good actions to build on. But some take less reworking of the hammer and trigger spurs to make them look like a Remington Sporter.
Some of the Danish have those big ugly spurs made to work with heavy mittens on, and stick straight out to the side of the breech block.
Some very early actions used screws to hold the pin in, instead of the "bowtie" plate between pins.
But they're still strong as any made in the Rem. factory.

The Danish actions can be used to make a very nice rifle.

My Danish 1867 model is dated 1883 on the top tang.

JerryH,  I like the profile of the hammer in your pic,  Is it the stock hammer reworked?  Can you post more pics of it?

Thanks,  Jim

Yes, I've got some ugly guns.

Will the piano wire trigger return springs available here fit the Danish models?  That has proven to be a sure fire cure for heavy triggers in my rollers without fear of messing up for us non-gunsmith types.  Thanks for the pictures.  Tom

I've yet to find a military full size Rolling Block that an .045" piano wire trigger return spring would help immensely!

Thanks Jerryh for the closeup pic of your hammer.  It sure makes a difference on a Danish action.

Those springs are better than sliced bread!  I ended up not buying the rifle but all three of my Remington rollers have the spring.  Tom

Many years ago Dave kindly sent me a spring, and I later bought a roll of .045" piano wire at a quality hardware store. It was $5 a lb. roll then.
Since I've made up a bunch of piano wire return springs for various rifles and every one of them has had much nicer triggers. Some a huge improvement in weight, while some a smaller reduction. But all were better.

I have made similar springs for all my small frame Martini rifles, quite an improvement. I also anneal the trigger and thread it to take a screw that adjusts the amount of sear engagement, then re-harden the trigger. A safe crisp 1 pound pull is possible.
