Found this one a new home.......Mine!!!

Haven't got my hands on it yet.
Supposed to be all original with all matching numbers. Excited for sure.
Serial No.: 10XX, 50/70 (50 CTG'E).
Should be configured just like Custer's Sporting Rifle
but for the front sight and possibly the rear stationary sight. Sling swivels?? Custer's was ordered in 1872. They switched  to the octagon receiver Top in 1873 with approx. 1400 sporting rifles made with the round top.
Did I mention I am excited?

Your first two picresize listings return Error Code 404; the last one works, though.  In any case, that's one gorgeous rifle!

All the pictures worked for me, and the Rolling block is gorgeous!
It appears to be a little newer than mine. My early round top Sporting Rifle has a very deep crescent buttplate as used early on, but yours has the later style as used on the octagon top Sporting Rifles.

Congratulations on a beautiful rifle! I would certainly be excited if it was mine.

As for the sling swivels, if you're wondering if they're factory I had the same question about mine. Now that I see your rifle I'm pretty sure both our rifles have factory sling swivels. I would like to see the rear one once you have your rifle. Below is a picture of the front sling swivel on my octagon top 44-77 sporting rifle.

Again, a really nice rifle you have.

Thanks for the comments guys.
I have passed opportunities on some really nice
Rolling Block Sporters,$$$$$, this being the last one:

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

I waited 2 hours too long and it was gone!
Did anyone here end up with this one?

I did not want to stew too long on this one, so when
they said 3-day inspection, I did not hesitate on this Early 50 caliber.
I then got out Marcott's book and started reading.
The "Round" pin heads check out.
Longer lower tang with extra wood screw.
Sliding bar extractor screw present.

Couple things I am curious to know is:

Confirming matching serial numbers.
Cleaning rod stud in the receiver?
Concave or round breech block?
Hammer ears?
Checkering on the hammer and block lever (Shield
or plain Crosshatch)?

Found this one a new home.......Mine!!! That's what the Sioux said that picked up Custer's rifle. I'll bet he was excited also. It's a beaut. I wonder how close Higginbotham's Custer rifles were to this? Anyone have one?

It's in the low 600 range. 32" full octagon heavy barrel.

1976.....that's a wonderful RB, enjoy!
I'm in the process of building something similar along the lines of Custer's rifle, also in .50/70 Govt. I have collected all the components, just have to put them all together! one question....what is the barrel length on your rifle? Thanks.

Spud,
I do not have it in hand as yet, seller stated barrel length
of 28”.
I have a hand full of Lone Star Rolling Blocks, one in 50/70
built similar to the Custer Rifle but with the later octagon top receiver.

Friend of mine just won a really nice Rolling Block Sporting Rifle at a Wards Auction last Friday. It's in about the same condition as yours, but a later octagon top receiver. Has a 30" half octagon barrel in .32-40, but the barrel is marked "Krupp Fluid Steel". Obviously an old rebarrel.
From what I can discover that marking was only used in the early 1900's, and mostly on shotguns, but a small number of rifles too. A pretty unusual old Roller, that has some interesting sights on barrel and tang.

It's in the low 600 range. 32" full octagon heavy barrel.

Many of the earliest round top sporting rifles did not have a barrel address. Does yours? And if so what is it?

Well my first thought was it had an address, but just dug it out of the safe and you're right; it has no barrel rollstamp at all. Just the serial number under the forearm, and caliber marking lower flat.
