Did I make a mistake? And what is it?

Ok, I was going to hold off posting this till I got the actual gun but work is slow this morning so here goes.

Just bought a purported Remington Rolling Block , here's the description and details the seller gave me. Also see pics attached that he supplied.

"The roller has a 30 1/2" heavy octagon barrel with perfect bore,  chambered in 45-70,  but that has no identifying marks whatsoever.  The extractor is missing,  and there are no sights although the barrel is dovetailed for them both fore and aft.   The butt plate is missing and the forearm appears to be from a heavy barreled Martini .22 target.  The action is nice and tight,  operates smoothly.   Numbers on both block and hammer match.   A couple of the smaller components,  like the hammer pivot pin,  have a tiny 'R' stamped on 'em.  Right side of the action is stamped  AR with inside legs of the two letters joined,  then '0',  over  '1881'.   The lower tang is stamped with a tiny crown and what looks like JS.   Hammer and block are stamped ' 45'."

The price was such that I won't be devastated if its not the real deal but I was hoping at least that someone could tell me what I did have as I will be needing some parts.

Thanks In Advance

It's a Spanish rolling block made in the Spanish government arsenal in Oviedo, Spain. Be aware that the extractor for your rifle is different than a Remington rolling block.

No. I looked some as I have an action missing the extractor and a few other parts with no luck. Most everything is different on the Spanish action compared to a Remington action. Possibly ebay, if you know what you're looking for.

According to de Hass the Spanish extractor has two "legs" to retract it and hold it in place where the Remington extractor has one "leg" to retract it and a screw in the side of the action to hold it in place.

Is that a loaded indicator on the block?

That's a firing pin retractor on top of the breech block.

'06' Deadeye is right it's for retracting the firing pin.

Hey Jer', found a solution that I hope will work for me from Ken Womack at RollingBlockParts.com.

Roger, If that is the double down leg bar style extractor, there really is no drop in substitute. No one makes the extractor that I know of.

In the past we have modified the action to function with the Remington single down leg bar extractor. This can be accomplished by drilling, tapping and countersinking the hole for the extractor retaining screw. That system then functions like the standard Remington bar extractor.

We've only done that to actions on which we were building a custom rifle. Not done it on a full military. It would certainly work, just don't know the value change that might cause.

That's a great option to convert it to the sliding bar extractor, especially since it's a fairly easy fix, and makes for an inexpensive fix too.
I've passed these actions up just because the extractor was missing. But might consider one cheap if it's this simple to fix.
