Norwegian Kammerlader rifle

Hi everybody,
I'm new at Assra and I would like to post pictures of a gun that you may not see every day. It's a single-shot percussion Norwegian Kammerlader from 1854. The gun is a breech loader in caliber 18 Loedig (approx .69), used by Norwegian Army and Navy from 1842 to 1870's when it was replaced by Remington Rolling Block. This particular rifle is in very good condition, only problem is getting the right bullets. Normal load is 96 grains of blackpowder behind a 574gr round ball.

Interesting firearm.

The action design seems a bit reminiscent of both the Hall and the Burnside, although the Kammerlader predates the Burnside by almost 20 years.  I wonder if Ambrose Burnside was ever in Norway prior to The War.

tried to send a URL for a youtube video. If it doesn't show just google the term; norwegian kammerlader
shows the owner expaining the thing, then dismantling it to show the parts and how it works. Then he goes out and shoots it a bit. not too bad considering.

Yes, very interesting. The action/rifle looks very robust.

I thought the same as you Bill; it reminds me of a Hall system rifle in design. The Hall predates this rifle by 25 years, so maybe somebody saw the Hall rifle and went back to Norway and built something similar?

Since the Hall was still in limited service in the 1840's, Val could be right.

Very interesting rifle for sure. I was lucky enough to bump into one once around 1978, I passed on it due to some serious rust issues (damp basement storage), but I didn't know I'd see another until now. Thanks a lot for sharing. Don't forget to eat some lutefisk before firing!

I watched a couple of the videos. The long one on the Swedish version was very interesting. I will certainly be keeping an eye out for one.
