Is there anyone out there cutting barrels with Pope type rifling these days?

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

Your online handle is apropos, I've always liked it.
Thanks for the tip about Ron Smith, I'll give him a call.
I wanna .32-40
"Pope"
barrel for shooting loads like they used back in the day but don't want to put that sort of wear-n-tear on an original.

Pardon my ignorance but what is it that makes Pope rifling different from everything else ?.

Im by no means a Pope expert, but his rifling was typically left hand twist, with wide grooves and he did many barrels with gain twist. It was revolutionary then, and difficult to replicate now. He was genius on multiple disciplines.

Mostly the left hand twist. Others did gain twist like Pope, and narrow lands like Pope. But not left hand twist.
Glad you asked what made his different vs. the usual "what makes his the best", since some other's barrels shot equally well, but weren't as well known as Pope.

Arguably the biggest difference between Pope's barrels and conventional rifling is that the hole through a Pope barrel is not round. And therein lies the real story.

If you read his 1899 catalog he explains his rifling concept. You can find it online. You might try a search something like:

Here's a sketch of a Pope rifling
I have two of his barrels, only one is on a rifle right now, a 22rf. The other is a 33-47 built for a Farrow and I'm building that action. They are both left hand twist, and let me say this, the 22rf shoots like nothing else I have. I have a few of Ron Smith's barrels and they are as close as I've ever seen. They don't quite shoot themselves like a Pope does, but they're close.

I tried to get grandpa to do it for me on more than one occasion. He wouldn't do it.
Good luck.

Thanks for your input, I'll contact Ron anyway, couldn't hurt. I know he is busy full time just filling barrel orders.
