These are five URLs with variations. Some are slanted more for hunting, but techniques are similar.

Review these and work to develop  the technique that best suits you and your equipment.

To lessen the effect of recoil, I shoot my BSA Martini .22 LR for initial practice on technique when testing loads or scopes.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share these, #2 and #5 I had seen before and saved but #3 and #4 were great finds for me.

Also looks like I have an excuse to go out and buy another gun.  Grin

I'd suggest attending an ASSRA match/event and watch what folks are doing.
Here is a list of our affiliated clubs; (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm in New Brunswick, Canada looks like closest club would be in Maine.

If you can get access to a file of the old Precision Shooting magazines, there are a lot of benchrest techniques set out by the top shooters of the 90s and early 2000s.  The editor was kind of a genius, in that he could cajole articles out of very skilled people who otherwise wouldn’t write down much more than a shopping list, machining layouts, or loading notes.

I can’t give you specific issues, since for a long time the publication didn’t even have a a table of contents.  But there’s a lot of good stuff in there, if you’re willing to search.

Harvey Donaldson also had some articles on rest shooting, in the American Rifleman and in his regular column in the Handloader magazine.  These, I believe, were reprinted in the book Yours Truly, Harvey Donaldson.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Good luck shooting that trapdoor off the bench with BP, it’s hard to keep your concentration because every time I shot stuff would fly off the bench-the recoil is nasty-your a better man than me.   Ledball

I wonder if there are any other Single Shot shooters in your neck of the woods. It'd be pretty cool to see an affiliated club in Eastern Canada Wink

I have had an affectation for BSA Martini International Mk I through Mk III since college freshman days (Now own one of each). They are supremely accurate and still reasonably priced. Having said this, the heavy-barrel Savage .22 LR rifles I've shot off the bench at 100 yards with good ammunition will produce the same accuracy.

I think that you will find that everyone's position is slightly different according to body build and gun. The most important thing is to do everything the same way each time.

Hey LedBall, no problem with recoil but then again I'm what I would call well-padded. Grin

Scott, there is a small group of guys about an hours travel from me in New Brunswick that are sort of into it - once of them has even travelled out to the Quigley matches but they only get together in the summer. I plan to join up with them.

I searched for archives of "Precision Shooting" magazine, didn't come up with anything. Can you share with us where to find the PS archives?
