Maynard barrel marked 30-30

Bore is .308 diameter, 28 inches long and a little over 3/4" at the muzzle.  A Winchester 30-30 brass fits the chamber.  The barrel does not appear to have been lined.  Any ideas insights about this barrel?

The barrel appears not to be lined and will fit up with a 30-30
cartridge in a 1882 Maynard.  The SN #13150 is on the barrel and the twist rate is listed at 16".  When I checked the twist rate it was 16". Maybe a .22 long rifle barrel was bored & rifled?  No, I have not shot this 30-30 in a Maynard, pressures would likely be too much with jacket bullet loads.  Light cast bullets might work.

Strange no one has responded to your post.

Yes, lead bullets and light charges of smokless or BP loads only for that one.

13-14 grains of 4227 is a mild load.

As ever, it's not the guy who has the rifle now.  It's what happens 40 years from now, when some kid finds that in the attic and his friend has an antique box of Winchester .30-30s made in 1986.

Or maybe he will be smart and line it to 32-20 and then double charge it and blow it and himself up.  Oh how we come up with ways to worry.  Grin

It would be a shame if it ended up looking like this:

Will you post a picture of the rifle? Please.

I don't know the story. Some one picked it up at a gun show and sent it to me because they thought it was interesting. It is a 50 cal percussion barrel and I'm fairly sure it was shot with smokeless powder. That's all I know.

Percussion barrel?  How do you know?

Because it is a 20" long 50 caliber with a 2nd model front sight and 2nd model inspector marks not cut for an extractor and a 50 cal percussion case fits into what is left of the chamber. Need more?
