Those look great Wayne! And I too am a big fan of the .40-50SS chamber rifles! I've only been shooting them a couple years so far, but have found them the .40-50SS to be a neat little cartridge. A cartridge that's better for smokeless loads than it likely ever was with black powder with it's limited case capacity for BP.

After a bit of consternation, I took the Wesson to the Michigan SS Guru. Decided to have the barrel lined with a .40 tube and chambered in 40-65 WIN.
The other option was setting the barrel back a couple inches and rechambering.  Price was about the same, but this way I will know the bore specs.  It appeared the original chambering was for .40-85 Ballard and paper patches slugs.
The barrel is 32” so I will remain a bit closer to the targets Wink
I’m set up for 40-65 and I’ve found this chambering able to do anything required around this part of the country.
A very accommodating fellow ASSRA member made some once fired cases available so I’ll be ready for range time.
Once the transfiguration is completed, I’ll provide a further report.
Thanks everyone for your input.
Mike.

Val, I was very happy with my first outing, result attached.

The 240 gr. bullet might be a little light? I've found 300-350 gr. work well in my 1:17" twist barrel.
