Bruce,

Thanks very much for the link. It downloaded fine and I will get a ream of paper and a bucket of ink and print it out. How did you find that? Great stuff.

Oneatatime, Thanks for the kind words. A long story how I came into this rifle but I am happy to have it and it has been interesting, rats

We have time, especially for a story about a unique yet fine looking single shot.

I thought I would spare the forum all the details as it is a long story and will condense it as much as possible along with sanitizing certain names. I was at a well known outdoor chain store near me looking at a Frank Wesson I had sent over from another store. However, it was badly over-advertised and not nearly as nice as the advertisement led me to believe. I was really mad because this was the second time it happened to me. So I went for a walk around the store to cool off a little before going back to the gun room.

I was looking around the racks when I saw a bunch of Sharp's and a lone single shot marked Ballard 50-90. I never saw such a thing before and knew it was no Ballard as I have one. So I asked the guy to show it to me. He told me it was an Italian made replica of a Ballard. It appeared unfired and was marked on the tang "Romano Rifles Pennellville, N.Y." I mentioned that to the sales guy and he said it was the importer. The price was more than right for what was obviously a unique gun and I gave him a hundred to hold it for me. On getting home I looked up the name and found him so I called Larry at his business. I asked if he had a few minutes as I was looking at one of his rifles to buy. He asked what it was and I told him I wasn't sure. He said what is the serial number? I said 40 and he said Oh, I know that rifle. It's a Spencer single shot I made for a fellow near me. He had to sell it during a messy divorce and I don't think it was ever shot. I asked if he would tell me what it cost and I almost keeled over when he told me. Needless to say, I raced back up to the store with the cash and bought the gun. First time I have legally stolen something from them and I haven't regretted getting it. A fine shooter and I never worry about someone else having one at the range either. So that's the story in a nut shell. By great good luck I have a very special rifle. Thanks, ratseye

This is the best 100 yard target to date. Five shots using a Baco 600 grain money bullet with two tapered bands and home made lube. First shot was out on a cold oily barrel. That pointy bullet doesn't make much of a mark so I hope you can see them. The loading data and chrono slip are on the target. MVA scope and mounts. The funny hold was to box the bull with the crosshair. Easier than trying to find center. Been playing with other things and I haven't shot it since. Thanks, ratseye

That certainly ought to do it! Definitely ticks both the looking great and shooting great boxes.

Well, I see Larry Romano certainly knows how to make a fine rifle, and he's not afraid to venture where other makers haven't. I think my wallet will be getting lighter this spring...
