I started a different thread on this, which seems to have disappeared.  I have no connection to the auction and will not be bidding.  I just think it is interesting and Stroebel said very rare.

Obvious collector value but I am not sure how it would be to use.  While windage on the rear was rare in 1879, they way this is made (pivot/arc) you will get some elevation with your windage!

I had the use of an orginial one and also have one that Frank Zika made, and I thought that might be a problem but They work very well the windage I checked varies only .005 of inch from center to all the way to one side , so approximately Half a minute elevation change if you go from center to full over. So not a problem in a offhand rifle

Is that a Lyman base swapped on the Farrow sight? Or did Farrow buy bases from Lyman?

That sounds more like what I've seen. I think this is modified to use the Lyman base.

And some of the long 4th type Farrow actions had integral mounts made as part of the upper tang.

Beyond the lack of originality, my biggest concern is whether this Lyman base has a working detent when it's coupled to the Farrow staff? It would be a PITA to try to get it perfectly vertical after each shot if it doesn't have the detent.

The same seller has now listed what I take from the patent markings to be an original Soule sight on a Peabody Martini base.  I have no idea what these are worth, but it looks nice.  Once again I have no connection to this auction and only wish I was bidding!
