I'm surely misreading the above: a Rem. 1-1/2 primer on a rimfire?

So where do you get .32 XL rimfire ammo?
Nice buck, and a cool Remington rifle!

Bill, sorry to be confusing. The rifle is a Model or No. 1-1/2, a slightly more petite version of the Remington No. 1 sporting model.

Val, I lathe turned the brass from rod to fit my chamber. I bored and reamed .223 through. The mouth is counter bored .299 for the heel bullet. The rim end is counterbored for a .22rf rim. The through hole is centered, I had enough firing pin overlap to turn an offset nub on the end of the firing pin to just hit the .22 blank. Primer and propellant is a #2 level .22 power load blank for a nail gun. It shoots quite accurately and is no louder than a .22 std. vel. but flings a 105 grain bullet.

I have made 32XL cases from 327 Federal except I offset the bore for the .22 load 0.024" and have a flat on the rim opposite the offset so you can feel which way to orient the case without looking.  The vast majority of the cases I make are just the standard 32 Long.  Wisconsin has a antlerless only season coming up and we are going hunting with our .32s.

KFW, there are some nice ones around. usually only see them in the headlights. They have pretty good security, the only meadows around here have their origins with a chainsaw. But a lot of deer in and around town to avoid wolves so the big guys will come down from the hills this time of year to chase the "city girls".

Tenmile, I have made a lot of cases swaging down .32CF brass also but this gun has a couple pits in the chamber that make extracting hard. By having the hole at .223 through except at the mouth the thick walls do not expand into the pits and I can reload forever without sizing and tapping the cases out with a rod.
Good luck with your hunt, I shot mine right through the "hard drive" to make sure he fell right in my 1.5 acre and not stagger onto a neighbor.

Wow!  Huh

With a .32 long? Kudos to you sir, for knowing your rifle and your ability. Looks like a dandy buck!

Neck shot? Head shot? I've been wanting to tackle one on our property here with my .35-40 Maynard, but I find it pretty hard to track and trail in this thick country. I feel a little ashamed of myself after reading your post!  Embarrassed

I drew down on this one with my .22 air rifle from the back porch but I didn't go through with it as it would have been a hassle had he dropped into the pond.

Jim, it has been 6 or 7 years since I first saw a decent buck walk through the yard. I have neighbors with in 150 yards so felt it needed to be done quietly. The 32 is quiet, I felt it had enough power if limited to a slaughterhouse type shot. I also have concerns about direction, angle and are there people walking down the road? I wanted the animal in few specific locations that meet all my criteria. I wanted him not moving so I could get that bullet in the brain. After 6 or 7 years, the plan finally came together. I have let many walk off over the years but this one checked all the boxes on my mental list so I finally pulled the trigger. I was so intent on making sure every thing was right I didn't realize how big he was till I walked over.
If you use your Maynard, you will have similar considerations if you are concerned about them moving off. Other than head, neck, spine you have to break 2 legs if you want on the spot anchoring. Just have to be ready to watch some get away.

Good self discipline! Commendable! I wish all were as aware of their surroundings when shooting. I have seen many who weren't.
