Cleave breech seating tool for Ballard

Just received another beautiful breech seating tool from Jerry Cleave! This is a tool his uncle Charlie Pool first built, and later Jerry copied for himself. I asked Jerry to please make one for me also, and he was kind enough to do so.
As with everything Jerry builds, the fit and finish is fantastic, and a work of art! And like my Cleave tool for my Hepburn, it also has a nice long handle that makes breech seating a dream to do!
This may be the last one, as Jerry told me it was a lot of work to accomplish the intricate machining required to make it fit a Ballard design. Shown on my Schoyen Ballard that I sent fired cases to Jerry from.

Very nice! Curious as to the material - stainless?

That is a really neat piece of gear! I am inspired to make one for my Stahl and another for the Peterlongo. Covid close-down of the ranges means that I have the time - but have I got the skill?

Not stainless, so they need to be wiped down to keep them from rusting. But the highly polished surface does resist rusting, and my other Jerry built for my Hepburn still looks as good as it did the day Jerry built it.

These tools are built along the same lines as the original George C Schoyen breech seating tools. I have an original Schoyen flyer for his products, but it doesn't show all the tools he offered. So not sure how exacting the clones are to Schoyen's original tools?

They really are great tools and Jerry does superb work. I recently got one for a high wall. That was added to a Hepburn one and another for a Birchardt. They are solid and provide great leverage.

Yes, the leverage is better than any tool I've used! I took a .375" soft round ball and breech seated it easily into my .32-40 bore to slug it and get the groove diameter.

I'm envious of the one for the Ballard. It looks great and so does the Ballard. Wink

Thanks. Picked up the Schoyen #6 in Denver a couple years ago. Besides the Schoyen barrel it has Schoyen set triggers also, and is an early #6 with the heavy German schuetzen buttplate.

Agree Marlinguy.  Jerry built two for my Zischang Borchardt 32-40's and his prime/deprime tools for three different calibers are works of art.  Fair price and pretty quick turnaround.  Excellent quality.

Yes, I have one of Jerry's re-decapping tools also, and it too is functional art! Jerry built mine to work with four specific calibers, but the rod diameters, and shell holders I got with it allow me to do about 10 calibers with the same set.
I use the heck out of it in my reloading, and shooting.
