Stahl target rifle

This is the "older brother" of Westerner's Stahl. Note that it also has the mounting rail for a quadrant backsight.

Very nice!
That these rifles have survived the better part of a century and a half and remain in the condition they're in today is a tribute to there care over the years. If only they could talk.
Beautiful rifle.
I've wondered the purpose of the rod under the barrel. Cleaning? Cartridge removal without spilling powder into the action with a finger seated in a fired case stop-ring bullet?

I have wondered about that as well. It certainly is chambered to take a stop-ring bullet, if that is a clue. It wasn't until I discovered that I actually (without realising it) had had a passable stop ring bullet mold for years (!!!) and cast a few, that I was able to shoot it without wrecking the cases.

Alas! This discovery came just as the ranges closed down (again!) because of Covid, while I was in the fire-forming phase of case preparation. So it's going to be a while before I can make further progress.

But I really like the "lollipop" backsight. A very neat arrangement.

Neat rifle, Pat! Killer engraving. Never saw one with a folding lolipop sight before.

The Stahl is a very old design. The rod under the barrel is a wiping rod. Stahls were built when BP was the only powder. Most were 9mm caliber. My Stahl has the hole in the forestock for a wiping rod but no pipes, being rebarreled to 8.15X46R before 1908.  It is now a 8.15X52R.  Mine is marked "Fr Jung & Sohne, Suhl" on the barrel.

Mine has a windgauge front sight. Takes a tiny little clock key.  Grin

This 3D printing business is really getting out of hand! Grin

As to my rifle, it's a real Stahl.
