Comparing two identical full octagon factory Winchester 1885 barrels, how much more is a factory matted barrel on three top flats worth?

Assuming the barrel is externally clean and sharp and the matting is still well-defined and not buggered up with screw holes, that barrel's worth at least a 100 % premium.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Imagine if you had a Winchester that lettered with a matted barrel and needed it? Price could really be tough to fix to the right buyer.

Lots of luck. Many years ago I got the "Matted Barrel Fever" Not available, so I sent out letters or email requesting Quotes. ZIPPO? Nada, none. So went along feeling left out. Found one listed in an Auction at New Hampshire. So went to see.
It was or is a #4 full Octagon 3 Flats Matted, Bore not perfect but bright and shiny. At the same Auction there was a full Helm Schuetzen Takedown 32-40.
I figured the Matted Barrel probably came from it and whoever bought the Rifle would also go for the matted barrel as the Rifle came up ahead of the Barrel. Well no show the Rifle got a lot of action, but when the barrel came up there was only 3 bidders and myself, oved slow and died at $700.00 so I bid $750. and got it. Could not wait to get home with it. Took a Takedown Winder Musket reciever and it went right together. Built a complete rifle around it and it shot superb. A few years later I found a like new thick side Takedown receiver with a beat up
30-40 Takedown Krag barrel on it. Got it for $2100.00 then switched the Matted barrel to it and then aquired  original Helm stock and forend, the result a really
nice good shooting Hi Wall Schuetzen. Have since aquired another Takedown 32-40 #4 in near perfect original condition. And there went another Takedown Winder receiver. Have given up looking for them any more. Two is enough for anyone. Regards, FITZ. OLD TUCK Smiley
