One of the nicest rifles I own is this 1974 year 78 in 30-06
has a vintage Redfield 3-9 scope and Browning's browned?? bases and rings.

As modern rifles go, the 78s are my favorite. I've been collecting them since I was 18 yrs old. Some of the knockout wood that Browning used has made chasing them alot of fun. And some of them are extremely accurate.
Your rings and bases were blued, but some sets over the years have turned brown or plum. Thanks for sharing, thats a beautiful rifle. If I could post pictures I'd share some of mine.

A beautiful rifle indeed!
It is actually quite sad that modern gun manufacturers have gone away from using wood. It is the wood that adds to the overall charm of a firearm and it the synthetics take away from it including the use of laminated wood.

the scope rings and bases are remarkably uniform in color if they were blue from factory.

Yes those are very uniform in color, not all are. Those are the more uncommon style of rings as well. The round barrel models had 2 weights, the heavier style is drilled and tapped in 2 spots on barrel for those modern bases and the old style blocks.
