Bullet puller for lead bullets

Ok I need to gently pull 100+ .40 cal 450 gr. 16:1 money bullets that have minimum neck tension. Going to need a collet that fits a .400" dia. nose. I do not want to use the hammer-inertia or pliers method. Can someone recommend a brand that you have used with good results? Driven by the need to not disturb the wad and compressed powder in the process.
Thanks

For lead bullets I gave up on collets and use a wire stripper laid flat on top of the press, squeeze into the sides of the bullet just above the case and lower the ram. EZ.

If I want to try to save the bullets I use RCBS impact bullet puller .i.dont use the supplied collet I just use standard press shell holders to hold the Rim of the case

The wire cutter method works well for me too.

Yes, a collet pull set up did not work well. I tried to pull them in my verticle mill. Went back to the hammer, found that a couple gentle taps to get 2 lube grooves exposed broke the lube suction and I could twist-pull them out with out dislodging the compressed powder wad column. Had to set barrel back 1 thread last week and run a new reamer in, then the cases did not seat by .062, so then resized/expanded & them re-seated the bullets and all is well for a test firing.

A kinetic bullet puller will separate the bullet from the case with minimum distortion to the bullet... based on my use of the puller pulling many bullets

Just think about it - the kinetic pullers are merely pushing the bullet out of the case- regardless of the tension in the case.  If the bullets were finger seated, there will be no distortion

He wasn't worried about the bullets, it was "with out dislodging the compressed powder wad column" beneath them that would have been disturbed by a kinetic puller.

No - only if you go about hammering like a madman, after the bullet is already out of the case.  If done with just a few gentle taps, the powder column won't budge, you just need to check as to whether the bullet is starting to move, and then proceed with even more caution.  Done this (too) many times, works quite well.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I've got a pretty complete set of collets and the tool they go with, and never use them. Worthless to me since I never load or shoot jacketed beyond a couple modern rifles. Need to take the whole setup to the next gun show if we ever have one again!

I use an 8" end cutting nipper with a deep throat.  It works great.

This works good.  You will need to re-cast the projectiles.

The possible problem with that (or using pliers the same way), Mike, is damaging the threads on the insert. Been there and done that once. That's why I now use a wire stripper placed flat across the top of the press. No chance of damaging the threads. Easier to use also.

I tried those and they do not lay flat across the top of the press causing the cartridge to tilt. These cutters are wide enough that they avoid the threads and grip much better than wire strippers.
Mike.
