Upgrade a Lachmiller priming tool

This was my Dad's and I used it as a teenager.  I always liked it but only had 1 shell holder and not the one I needed.  My solution was to buy a RCBS ram prime and modify it for my needs.
I shortened it about 1/2" and turned off the threads to the same dimensions as the original shell holder.   I made a sleeve that rides the cam and gets the ram to the correct longer height.

And the final product. Works great  Cheesy

I made a spot to hold the small primer ram as well.  I can change it out from the top without any tools.

Very nicely thought out and then executed and congratulations on your successful approach.

Give a machinist a problem, some odd bits of material, and enough time, and he’ll come up with a good solution.  I would never have thought to do it exactly that way, but it looks like your way is indeed a good way.  There’s even a certain elegance there.  Smiley

I'm certainly no machinist but I do have a nice selection of machine tools.
It probably wouldn't be worth the trouble to anyone else, but it pleased me to bring new life back into a tool from my youth and a connection to my Dad.

I have one of those Lachmiller bench tools that is sitting around doing nothing, and oddly enough a couple of blanks somebody cut for shellholders to use with it... no idea where any of it came from!   Smiley

Maybe I’ll get “a round tuit” and finish them for a couple of cases I load.  HMMMMMMMM...  Roll Eyes

See what you started?

Very nice conversion.  I have the same tool and was able to get the most commonly used shell holders with it.  Also have the same size/style in an RCBS bench model, and much prefer the Lachmiller.
