Temperature Changes

I was curious if anyone other than myself also adjusts their powder charge settings to keep their rifles in tune. I do adjust mine for every 10 degrees of a temperature change.

I don't have my powder charge variation pegged to specific 10 degree increments as you do but I do back off a few tenths from my normal warm temperature  load when it gets really hot. I kick in a few tenths increase when the temps go from warm to cool. It never seems to get very cold here in the desert so I don't have a load for cold weather. I do agree that varying the powder charge to suite the temperature does help keep a rifle in tune.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

I do the same  I have a summer and a Winter lube
I do adjust powder charges slightly on a couple of guns because I find they shoot the best when the bullet holes just start to print round and open up if velocity gets a bit too high. I probly could just pick a load middle of the road but I like loading with my belding and mull on the bench.

Using fixed 38/55 or 32/40  offhand 200 yard matches.  I adjust as much a 2 moa to keep Strike pattern zeroed. 4227 with temp variance roughly 30 degrees to 90. Morning to mid day cold start, warming up always take a minute off the sight. .22 Rimfire at 100 needs roughly the same correction.

Bench adjusting on individual strikes easier to read and probably needs a bit more to compensate For temperatures

Ten degrees in temperature change isn't written in stone but just a rough estimation Randy. What I play real close attention too is my verticle dispersion and not so much the temperature itself. When I see my vertical dispersion starting to increase and typically due to a temperature change. I will then adjust my load accordingly to maintain the least amount of vertical dispersion. Prior to shooting any record targets I will first adjust for the least amount of verticle dispersion for that particular day on my sight in target.

Now you have ballistics programs that can take into account the variance between zeroing and current temperature.

Ya but having a tablet or smartphone on the bench with a schuetzen is sacrilege...

The young fellers at our range cant stop looking at their phone shooting apps and spend less time getting actual trigger time.

A sighter target can tell you what a Phone APP just cannot if you are shooting in a Schuetzen benchrest match.

Agree.the target speaks. I was out this morning with a couple of different weight bullets and I just started low on my powder charge and worked my way up until the groups got round.easy,no technology required

Yes Sir but I am not just looking for round holes but the least amount of verticle dispersion. If one doesn't have it down to at least around an inch. There is not much hope of getting all of the shots inside of the one and a half inch 25 ring. Or for shooting tens and X's in CBA competition.

I end up ajusting for temp changes and elevation changes. My gun shoots differently in Tennessee and Indiana.

I have noticed that my shooting really goes south in the cold with a .308 sniper rifle I have. Cold being under -10F. I asked about this on a sniper forum, and was advised to keep the ammo warm in a cooler.(Good advice was scant as most folks don't shoot in these temps.) We know that cold ammo shoots slower, and hot ammo faster. Do you guys think the barrel harmonics change with the temp? Or only the ammo?
I know that dragging a warm rifle out into the cold, makes things go WILD until the rifle cools off. I've tried cold soaking the rifle, and that was better. I'm leery of loading hotter ammo for the winter, we have way too much temperature variation where I live. It would be inviting a disaster.
