Lyman 310 tool with die in original box. End of box is hand written “40-2 1/2 Rem.” What is this cartridge? Is it the 40-70 Sharps Straight? Trying to figure out what cartridge the die is for. Undecided

There will be a 2 or 3 digit # on the dies itself. You should be able to reference against this chart.

What number is on the die?  Somebody with a list of Lyman code numbers might be able to help.  Since it was hand-written, maybe it was for a Remington Hepburn in 40-2.5 which is the 40-70 SS.  Is it a sizing die and if so, is it straight sided?  Interesting find for sure.  Tom

Thanks for the response guys. The set is in Albuquerque N.M. and the tool and die was described to me by phone. I found the Lyman 310 die chart and will see if they can find the number. John
