Set for a while

Noticed my pure lead supply was getting relatively low so picked up 300 pounds of clean sheeting scrap. A lot of it was cut offs from where a long roll was shortened and some of it still had the original paper wrapping. Anyway, got out the big gas pot and all my ingot moulds (Teddy bears, muffins, small corn sticks and large corn sticks) and got to work. Usually I run 80 to 100 pounds in the big pot but I think at times I had well over 120 pounds in it for this exercise. Once I got it up to about 700 degrees I started filling the moulds and then would throw in another batch of sheet and would give the moulds 5 minutes to cool before I dumped them, refluxed the pot and repeated. Ended up with 5 piles each having two dumps worth of ingots and a tired me!

Question,
I have a couple hundred lbs. of lead sheeting that has brown paper backing on one side. On melting the lead, will it burn off, or does it need to be removed first?

Yes it will burn off, but stinks to high heaven. Most likely sheet lead from lead lined drywall. I have done over a ton of it in the past 5 years.

The brown paper on mine was just inserted into the last lap and then wrapped around the roll and taped. Lead sheeting is available with a glue back and removable paper to protect the glue.
