As mentioned 3X the bullet diameter is a general rule and why I also recommended that you get a second opinion from Steve Brooks. If using a Spitzer design or similar too a bullet can be longer than a flat nose design. Nose pour bullets are a good choice based on my own experience. And as you mentioned the benefit is the bases are flat, the edges are sharp and I personally believe that to be a plus.

MickB below is a picture of Mike Bennets swaged and lubed bullet if it might somehow help you out with your own project. And the way it is crossed hatched per-say for the lube being used of which appears to be liquid Alox?

Unless I am missing something .457 x 3 = 1.371, pretty close to 1.4".

In order to try my bore diameter bullet idea, at the lowest possible cost, I will try and see if I can get a .400" bullet sizing die from BACO and then reduce the diameter of one of my usual .40 cal bullets from .408" to .400" if possible.
The cost of a custom mould, plus shipping to Aus  will run me about A$350 and if the idea dose not work out as planned I will be stuck with a mould that nobody wants to buy,
I'm getting a bit too stingy in my old age to take a chance like this.
Mike.
