High Wall Seater depth

I started another thread so I wouldn't hijack CPAShooter's Range Snafu tread.
I made it to the range early today and got a bit of fairly calm conditions and remembered my wind flags.  I verified that the depth that I had recorded and now set in Loctite on my cam style seater, still works well in my rifle.  I measure from the front of the rim using the 'tail' of the micrometer. For this rifle/bullet combination that depth is 2.115"

It actually depends on how other chamber's are cut so don't take that specific measurement to the bank. You still need to pursue the exact seating depth that your own rifle likes the best. And this is exactly what he is pointing out and very graciously sharing to this group.

The rifle is a flat spring High Wall with a lower tang that indicates a 1919 manufacturing date.  I doubt it was the original tang, however.  I bought it from an old gentleman in West Virginia off of Gun Broker.  It came with a couple of run of the mill 219 barrels. It had a through bolt arrangement and a single set trigger, BUT no hammer with fly or a correct grooved sear.  I luckily found both on eBay.  Taking it to the range was quite interesting.  It would slam fire or refuse to cock frequently.  Luckily the issue was just not enough wood relief where the knock-off spring was.  The spring was partially depressed.  I doubt that owner ever successfully shot it.  My guess he had someone put a set trigger lower tang on it along with its current 14 twist Green Mountain barrel.  Wes Turner of Coyle WA cut a tapered throat and I began the search for an accurate load.  The combination of the Darr designed spitzer bullet that CPA used to sell made by Hoch coupled with a switch to 300 MP based on the results of John Louis has resulted in a match winner.  It is nice to have a traditional rifle that will stand toe to toe with the Hochs and Millers in Spokane.

Looks like a winner to me!  My experience with those single set triggers that were added to a different action is limited to the one on my low wall musket that I had rebuilt into a "Special Sporter" configuration.  I have to be aware of the little adjusting screw walking its way out of place and making the set feature unworkable.  Just a suggestion; a tiny speck of some sort of thread locker, even nail polish, once you're happy with the adjustment, is a good idea.

You've come a long way since the days at Tacoma when you were shooting a trapdoor, Jack.

Good job!

Jack it is nice to see a traditional rifle shooting so well.  I just can't get into the aesthetics of the modern type single shots so I really appreciate seeing your results.

Chris.
