12 yr old Grandson had my 39A out yesterday. Bought it used when I was 12. Gun Shop let me pay weekly. That was 60 years ago. Added the 3x Unertl Small Game few years ago bought from ASSRA member. Original Scope Weaver B6.
12 Lb CPA too heavy for him offhand. Get him on it soon, probably X sticks

Both my oldest Grand Daughter's at that age were shooting the ISSA Regional Junior 100 yard Benchrest events. Rifle was a CPA Model 52 with 20X Unertl Scope.

John my plan is to keep him plinking until the fall. The GC has a long running junior program, starting in September 12-19 years old 3P international Air rifles. He’s real interested.

Actually the Marlin and Unertl are about the same Well used Condition. Early 50s 39a is a quick sell at 500-600, paid 300 for the Small Game
Rimfire Lever Silhouette early Marlin is the gun to have. Take the scope off & use the 1A Lyman. Don’t think Snipers ever used Small Games & Bench shooters want more power.
Together they are made for each other.

This is a good way to start a new junior shooter. Light and handy with a decent trigger pull, the new shooter is not handicapped. The Marlin 39A, and 39M, are very accurate, they often win the Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot in the hands of a very good offhand shooter.
I wanted one growing up and now have one of each from early 19060's manufacture. I give my son a new 39A as a college graduation present in 1990.
